Weekly Family Day Trip: Adventure Park USA in Monrovia, MD

Hi friends! I am kicking off a new weekly series where I visit and review one kid-friendly destination within a 90-minute drive of Westminster, Maryland. I know firsthand how hard it can be to find a fun, easy outing that does not turn into a whole production. So I am doing the research for you.

First up: Adventure Park USA in Monrovia, Maryland. This place is an absolute gem tucked away in Frederick County, and the best part? It is only about 35 minutes from Westminster. You can be there before the kids finish asking "Are we there yet?"

The Vibe

Adventure Park USA is the kind of place where you walk in and immediately hear giggles, arcade dings, and the distant roar of go-karts. It mixes indoor and outdoor attractions, so you can tailor your day to the weather. Outdoors you will find go-karts, a Wildcat roller coaster, bumper boats, mini golf, and batting cages. Inside there is laser tag, a ropes course, rock wall, bumper cars, virtual reality, and a massive arcade.

My kids are at the age where go-karts are practically a religious experience, and let me tell you, the track here is a blast. The Wildcat Coaster is a perfect starter coaster for younger thrill seekers. And the laser tag arena? Prepare to get schooled by a seven-year-old.

• Light layers — the indoor laser tag arena can get warm once you are running, but you will want a layer for the shady outdoor spots
• Hand sanitizer — arcade joysticks + kids = trust me on this one

Tips for Parents

• Go early on a Saturday. The crowds build by early afternoon, so arriving when the gates open gives you first dibs on go-karts and the coaster before lines get long.
• Buy a play card at the entrance. Everything runs on reloadable cards. You can load it with a set amount and let the kids swipe without worrying about loose change.
• Bring cash for the snack stand. The arcade area has a pizza-and-pretzel setup that is perfectly fine for lunch. If you want more options, you are a short drive from several family-friendly restaurants in Monrovia and Frederick.
• Plan for 3-4 hours. That is the sweet spot. Enough time to do one or two outdoor rides, a laser tag session, the ropes course, and a round of mini golf. Any longer and the kiddos hit a wall.
• Pick a weekend with good weather. The outdoor attractions are the highlight, so aim for a Saturday with clear skies. The indoor stuff is great for a rainy day backup, but the go-karts and coaster are where the real memories happen.
